Clapton's Concert Canceled

Which is a shame as I was looking forward to an evening on Red Square with Eric Clapton.  The MT's report suggests that the Kremlin withdrew permission:

Eric Clapton's concert on Red Square has been canceled after authorities abruptly withdrew their permission, the rock singer and guitarist's publicist said.
which may or may not be the straw that broke the camel's back, an inside source suggests that Clapton's people just got fed up with being mucked around by rent-seeking bureaucrats - that's demanding a bribe to you and me.

There are various conflicting reports about this. Your guess is as good as any. But it was interesting to read this in today's UK 'Independent'. The story was about potential damage to St Basil's from new construction on Red Square. But this paragraph may interest you. Quote:

" Andrei Batalov, head of the cathedral's restoration commission, believes that . . . Moscow's construction boom is not the only threat facing the cathedral. He said it is also being put under strain from rock concerts on Red Square. The music is frequently 100 times above the legal norm, he said, and St Basil's intricately restored wall murals and icons are at risk of peeling off the walls as a result."
